So, ChatGPT is moving from “people using it casually” to “health as a proper product surface.” That shift matters because it changes what users expect from every healthcare app: faster clarity, simpler explanations, fewer steps, and less anxiety.
If you’re building in healthtech, don’t rush to bolt on a chatbot. Instead, use this moment to pressure-test what your product is truly good at—and what it needs to become.
Here are five questions worth asking, as a healthcare product leader:
What part of my product stays valuable if a “chat layer” becomes the default?
A lot of healthcare products depend on being a better interface to information: reports, symptoms, next steps, reminders, basic care guidance. If users can get a good explanation and a reasonable plan in one conversation, that advantage shrinks.
So ask: if the “explain this” layer is now cheap and everywhere, what do we uniquely own?
Most defensible strengths look like:
- Deep workflow integration (real hospital ops, not generic advice)
- Trust + compliance + governance (who can see what, when, and why)
- Clinical pathways + outcomes (does care actually improve?)
- Distribution (providers, insurers, employers, networks)
- Service delivery (care teams, labs, pharmacy, home collection)
If your main value is “we explain health info nicely,” you’ll need to move up the stack.
Where are users stuck because we designed for forms, not conversations?
Healthcare is full of anxiety moments:
- “What does this lab value mean?”
- “Is this urgent?”
- “What should I ask my doctor?”
- “Why am I taking this medicine?”

What is our safety stance when AI is confidently wrong?

As a product leader, you need clear boundaries for what your AI is allowed to do—and what it must never do.
Ask yourself:
- What happens if a user says: “I have chest pain right now”?
- What happens if they ask: “Can I stop this medication?”
- What happens if they ask: “Is this cancer?”
Disclaimers are not enough. Your product needs risk design:
- Escalation rules for urgent symptoms (right-now care pathways)
- Hard limits around medication changes
- Clear “I don’t know” behavior when uncertain
- Guidance that pushes users toward appropriate professional care
- Audit trails (what was shown, and why)
If you can’t answer these clearly, you’re not ready for AI in sensitive journeys.
Are we ready for users bringing their own medical records everywhere?
Once users get used to uploading records and connecting data in one place, they’ll expect portability and control elsewhere too.
Now look at your product honestly:
- Can users export their data cleanly?
- Do you have strong consent and retention rules?
- Are permissions granular (self vs family vs caregiver vs doctor)?
- Can you explain privacy in plain language, not legal language?
In India, trust is fragile. If your privacy story is fuzzy, you’ll lose users faster than you think—especially when bigger brands market “safer” defaults.
If admin automation becomes commodity, what do we build next?
AI will reduce the value of products that are mostly “documentation and admin acceleration.” If everyone can generate summaries, drafts, and notes, the differentiator shifts.
So ask: if typing faster becomes free, what higher-order value do we provide?
Good answers usually live here:
- Care coordination: closing loops between patient ↔ doctor ↔ lab ↔ pharmacy
- Operational intelligence: no-shows, triage load, capacity planning
- Outcome tracking: measurable improvements, not just activity
- Specialized intelligence: narrow, high-trust domains (chronic care, oncology pathways, radiology workflows)
In simple terms: stop being “a faster tool.” Become “a system that improves care.”

In one meeting:
- List your top 5 journeys by volume or revenue.
- Mark which ones are “clarity + reassurance” heavy.
- Mark which ones are “workflow + governance” heavy.
- Decide where you’ll compete with chat, and where you’ll win with systems.
